Are you interested in running for the SJISD School Board?
San Juan Island School District is seeking passionate student advocates to fill our two open school board positions by election this November. The filing deadline is Friday, May 19.
What: Are you or is someone you know possibly interested in running? Our open house is for interested candidates to get their questions answered!
When: Monday, April 24 or Thursday, April 27
Time: 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.
You'll hear from current board members and the superintendent about...
- What board members do
- Time commitments and responsibilities
- How to file
- What it takes to run a campaign
- Where to learn more about the work of the board
- Resources and training opportunities
- A brief overview of where this district has been and is headed
There is no commitment. This is just an informational meeting to answer your questions and help prepare you to run if you're interested. Our school board plays a vital role in making our district an incredible place for students to learn and employees to work. We need two new leaders to help carry the torch and light the way to our future. We hope to see you there!
The Washington State School Directors' Association has provided this flyer to help inform potential board candidates of both how to file for candidacy and where to get more information about School Board service.
Please be aware that WSSDA is offering workshops for board candidates around the state in June. They are free, but registration is required for logistics and communications purposes.
Information beyond these basics is offered on WSSDA’s For New School Directors page found under Leadership Development > Board Development.
